Cutting thin 0.005" Kapton (Polyimide) on the laser cutter

The following works well:

  • set material to Mylar, 0.015" thick
  • manually adjust the cutting parameters:
    • power = 10.5%
    • speed = 25%
    • PP = 300%

These parameters have worked successfully for the PHAS machine shop for several jobs.

In the same print job, the laser cutter is cutting the same space over and over again!

You've probably got multiple lines in the same place. CorelDRAW treats these as one object, so it's hard to see. Try using one of the automated cleanup functions in CorelDRAW or OMAXLayout.

CUTTING GRAPHITE ON THE WATER JET

Graphite is not known in OMAX material setup
-Select ENTER CUSTOM OTHER BRITTLE MACHINEABILITY
-Manually enter 897 in Machineability

Graphite cuts so quickly that you may experience severe reverse-taper, especially in materials thicker than 3/4"
-To minimize the taper, select CUT USING LOW PRESSURE in cut settings

The initial pierce can crack or chip
-Move your starting point away from the edge of the material as much as possible
-Make as long of a LEAD IN as possible
-Select USE LOW PRESSURE & VERY BRITTLE MATERIAL in the pierce settings

IF PROBLEMS PERSIST
Try using a lower quality when laying out drawing
-3 is the STANDARD quality. Lower to 2 for a MEDIUM ROUGH CUT

THINGS TO CONSIDER
Material removed will turn the tank black and cause shiny black bubbles at the surface. It can be quite messy depending on amount being cut
